these are some things i like at the moment. actually, it might be one thing. i suppose that's to be determined as i continue with the rest of this.
after my break-up with japanese music about five or six years ago, i haven't listened to anything like my beloved art-school since then. i try to avoid it if i can. i rebounded with english/european music ranging from rock to electric kinda of stuff, but these days i hold no true loyalties to anything and i've ended up listening to many odd things. so, this month i stumbled on this:
i don't know what made me click and watch. (i think it was the hair--it reminded me of high school/early college days scene-y/emo-ish boys.) i thought whoever was singing was a girl, the voice seemed high pitched at the time, but it was the guy with the hair. i ended up liking it so much. now i listen to kana-boon at least once a day. from there i discovered this sort of thing:
that was the first one i saw where the person in the video plays one part of the song on guitar/bass/drums without showing their face. some people use masks, as seen above, or they just keep their heads out of the frame.
sometimes the person will show their face in the video, but most are faceless. is this a thing? i know people like to do covers of songs, singing and playing along and all that. these videos are more about sticking to the one part throughout the song ("try to play") much like guitar hero or something. i have two theories about the no-face thing: 1. they are hideous and/or embarrassed about the way they look. 2. they are modest and would rather showcase their abilities rather than their appearance, as it would too distracting. i would rather believe the second theory as i like to imagine they are as attractive as they are talented. what girl can resist a musician? mmmm. however, from personal experience the first one might as well be true.......
i'm so into king of the hill right now. even though i started watching it ten or eleven years ago when it was still on tv, the shows seems so much better an funnier. i netflix it nonstop and, dang, it's some good stuff.
and i really like eating brie. it's good. so goood.
hey. after only, like, two real classes of summer school i feel totally spent--like, y'know, my brain has already overloaded with new fangled vocabulary and grammar. what the h? i learned most of it before so all this is like a manual reboot for my brain. so weird because my mouth tends to work faster than my brain in dire circumstances. at least i'm kinda making friends? well, willingly, perhaps.
with all the time i have being used up for mostly learning, there is little room for error in making the best of my breaks. thus i have turned to TV on the internet. i guess over the past few months i've been watching cartoonnetwork whenever i'm in the vicinity of a tv where i am in control of the clicker. and all i've been watchin, 'cuz i'm lucky that it's always on, is REGULAR SHOW. oh my, i haven't been this excited about a cartoon targeted for a younger audience since, uh...the marvelous misadventures of flapjack, i think. seriously, though, this animation clearly has older people themes/relevances. of course it's all subtle and things are substituted with kid-friendly stuff (eg: beer=soda). i was so shocked when i heard mordecai and rigby saying, "crap" and "pissed" and...(i'm so probably sure) "damn" 'cuz i was totally thinking kids are watching this, knowing those might be some offensive words, but at the rate at which english is being desecrated these days...in MY day, that language was reserved for cartoons only on the comedy central/[a s]/primetime local TV kinda place. i mean, i wasn't suspecting it. i can't stop watching it---sooo amazing. i have a brain crush on mordecai, but rigby is adorable and pops is just old-timey weird that i giggle everytime he breaks out dancing and...OH MAN.
yeah. i'm kinda obsessed right now.
hahaha.."we need more guests with breasts and i ain't talkin' 'bout mine."
three years since i started this thing! amazing! this was originally contrived to harbor my sadness as a result of leaving all my nice overseas study friends. hmm. i suppose it's been generally true to its purpose..with explosive and bland side-effects. also, i have been studying some japanese again and it's surprising when i realize that i can understand more than i'd like to remember. it's odd. other things! i have discovered this nice little music delight known as yojiro toyama. it's very delightful and refreshing and i adore his voice. i..don't know. i guess i was tired of the nonchalant charm that has been oozing from the likes of those suave-y european boys (oh alex turner..what a disappointment you are) or the casual brashness of those american kids. try it..
oh. so now you're asking, "what else can't this person get enough of?" well, i'm obliged to tell you that it's probably jarvis cocker (hold still), sparta locals (stay dreamer), and ummmm...sitting outside to read in the sun. enjoyable. and time consuming in a passive manner. that's the way i likes it.
