tornando ai film again

hello. i don't remember the last time i talked about a movie in a sort of review style. i know it was something i used to do, especially when i started posting on the regular and when i was taking those film classes and such three or four years ago. maybe i haven't seen anything worth mentioning since then (most likely the case), but today i would like to bring attention to les emotifs anonymes.

i absolutely relished this film to the full extent, rarely something i will admit to for a film with content such as this. i'm not normally the one to enjoy dramas and romances and comedies too often...i suppose there's too much to think about and keep track of once the film gets going and my upbringing on senseless violence has attributed to this so i end up spacing out or becoming jaded with the trite and banal plot. or i end up super emotional (damn you eternal sunshine).

les emotifs anonymes was different from the usual fare because i felt as if it was a representation of how i go about things, perhaps more of how i used to, and what's happening in terms of "i'm shy and awkward and you're shy and awkward....it's kind of a bad match" incident as of late. all i could think was, "god, that's basically me. i'm really almost that level of shy...holy fuck." it was just...i don't know, i felt as if it summed up what was going with me.

the plot revolves around a française chocolate maker who is part of a self-help therapy group à la AA where she reveals her struggles with shyness and love. she becomes employed at a chocolate-making shop(..? is that what you call those sort of places?), becoming the object of affection for her boss, an equally shy and awkward man who has a great love for women, but is too afraid to approach them romantically. it was an enjoyable to watch them interact in train-wrecking fashion over the most normal of everyday activities.
and i was maybe swayed a bit because it was a french film. i do enjoy those in general. most times. when the mood strikes.

i could relate to the awkwardness immensely.

i really had a wonderful time viewing this; it was magical in a weird way...i don't know. maybe you have to be a quiet, shy, covert romantic to understand why this film is good. i highly recommend giving it a watch.

it was pleasant to see this in the backgroud throughout the film, too.

this is Pierre Niney. it's almost as bad as my last obsession with Gaspard Ménier.

If you're into it

current obsessions:

)the vaccines-wetsuit

)this 'musician'

Taragana Pyjarama. His name makes me think of tarragon pajamas. Additionally, he is quite cute.

)old-timey sex

)campy underwear (courtesy of victoria's secret which i only ventured into because i was sent a gift card that i did not want to put to waste).

When does one don a thing such as this? I was seriously attracted to the sparkly, pink hearts.
i could use a less offensive brassiere, though, in a blindingly neon colour or with some other ridiculous all-over print.

that's about the limit to my excitement so far. yeeeaaahh.

boys, Boys, the perpetual distraction

i'm rather happy i found this bit of awesomeness: jaw porn. holy. it doesn't hurt that the faces attached to the jaws are also mighty fine. i died when paul rudd popped up; pleasantly surprised james franco has a younger brother who looks nice too. i crave some variety in guys (totally nonexistent/lacking here) and this provided a good fix. i find myself craning my neck to check out any white guys within my vicinity (the last time i saw a relatively acceptable one was in 대구). ....i really, really miss seeing shitloads of white guys that are actually appealing. like seriously.

now for a shameful bit. and you thought sexy jaws were embarrassing (ooh, the scraggly beards above all~): let me give a throw back to mr. alex turner. i tend not to think about him as much these days. but. i've watched a helluva lotta korean tv, much to my dismay, and seen this one bloke who i found to resemble my old infatuation. he's also in music and alternates the short/long-shag hair. it's 민호 from 샤이니. i think there's some semblance. see here:

AND

similarities, no?
quite possibly a hair connection. i like the juxtaposition of cute: the boderlining on ultra-feminity good boy and the kinda bad-ass. also the fact that they're not even the same ethnicity intrigues me.

conclusion:
a)i still like cute guys
b)i am now searching for my available hoppa alex turner & 민호 guy (like i wasn't already doing the former..)

♥ Owners of Loney Hearts }}

i am sick. i always seem to mention that whenever i get to blogging...anyway, i'm in seoul and i went to my uncle's place to celebrate the lunar new year. i haven't seen him in a very long time and i didn't know more than half of my extended family (seeing as most of my cousins are mostly ten or more years older than me on my mom's side), especially since most of them had spouses and children. the highlight of my time there, besides the food and money, was watching the olympics' speed skating and discovering J.R. CELSKI. OH SHE-IT. he is so adorable. i can't believe he's nineteen and half filipino (we have a commonality! i seriously think that's a major reason why he's so cute). i kinda totally forgot about him, but stuff on the facebook reminded me to look up this character.

ahhh!! don't you just want to hug and do other cutesy things i can't think of with him??!!?! i knows i does. i wonder if he'll show up more on the olympics..that thought really makes me want to watch more of it.

carrying on! i had a nice time with my relatives...my cousin is so nice!! he took me to eat at tasty places and to historical/interesting locales. i kinda feel so horrible that all the people in know there just fed me, bought me stuff, and gave me money...it makes me feel like such a freeloader. i have to plan to do some good payback when i have the time in the future.
lastly, happy valentine's day. this may be on the wrong date, but, whatever. it's around the time i normally post stupid stuff (sans the j.r. bit).

All work and no play. Makes me A

there is too much to do this month. applications galore! i think universities are my priority, but i would very much like to finish the one for teaching in korea (ah, yes, i get paid and i can travel around asia!). it's for six months.
for some obscure reason i am totally into metalocalypse. i don't know why. i like the gore and the voice acting, maybe. i like toki. i'm scared of murderface. i'm liking the adult swim with the full episodes of seasons 1 at the moment. i can't fully understand why i recently find this show so appealing. i don't really like metal, i guess. ehh.
music that i'm totally into: jazz. The dave brubeck, the charles mingus, the john coltrane, the miles davis, the max roach. Also some, uh, "indie" stuff as it were: freelance whales, surfer blood & local natives. hmmmm.
there isn't really any other things worth writing...i'm liking this one guy in my art history class, but it's a lecture-like setting with a whole shitload of people and...how the hell am i gonna be getting to know him with that going on? i don't even know his name (at least i found out grant at the ucsc)! i'm smitten with the fact that he looks like alex turner and dresses rather nicely (casual and composed in a semi-sophisticate way). i'd very much like him.
this must surely be the eclectic and incoherent.
i'm thinking about changing the colour scheme or something soon; also considering streamlining this blog into featuring topics that are age and gender appropriate since i've been browsing other things...
or not.
all i really want to do is go to ny. and stay there until i die somewhere in europe.
